On February 8, 2024, a meeting was held at the Agency for Strategic Reforms (ASR) with the
German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) on the initiative of the ASR. The meeting was attended by the first deputy director of ASR A. Abdukadirov, program manager of the Sustainable Economic Development of GIZ Beate Shoreit, employees of ASR M. Kholboev, F. Zeifert and other representatives of GIZ.
The main topic of discussion was joint work with state institutions of the R epublic of Uzbekistan to develop industrial policy. The transfer of competence for developing industrial policy from the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade to the Ministry of Economy and Finance, as well as the creation of a special department within its structure, clearly demonstrates Uzbekistan’s interest in developing its own industrial policy.
However, issues of coordinating the activities of international partners, such as the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ), require closer interaction between various government institutions of the Republic of Uzbekistan, including the Country Platform Institute. The “Country Platform” is a tool for systematizing and increasing the efficiency of financial and technical support provided to Uzbekistan by international and country financial institutions for the implementation of the most promising projects and programs. The Agency for Strategic Reforms under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan is responsible for organizing the work of the Country Platform.
During the discussions, the next steps necessary to begin developing an industrial policy for Uzbekistan under the leadership of the Ministry of Economy and Finance in close coordination with the ASR were identified.
