The Agency for Strategic Reforms held an online meeting with representatives of Daewoo Engineering & Construction from Korea.
The meeting, which was attended by Deputy Director of ASR R. Azizov, Head of the Global Infrastructure Group of Daewoo Engineering & Construction Ilhee Zhang, was also attended by the Executive Director of the Yuco Alliance company from the UAE, Sardor Yuldashev and officials of the Agency.
During the discussion, the parties discussed the potential of public-private partnerships for the implementation of various infrastructure projects. Ilhe Zhang noted the company’s expectations from the upcoming tender to select a private partner for the construction of the Tashkent-Andijan toll road under PPP mechanisms.
The reconstruction of Tashkent International Airport, the construction of a high-speed railway for passengers, as well as the construction of new medical facilities, toll roads and hydroelectric power stations were discussed as promising projects.
The construction of the Tashkent-Andijan toll road became one of the key aspects of the discussion. Following the meeting, the Agency undertook to provide Daewoo Engineering & Construction with all the necessary information about potential projects that are already under discussion with international financial institutions and other partners.
In addition, the Agency expressed interest in the company’s proposals for new models and structures of public-private partnerships aimed at effective interaction between the government and the private sector with minimal public investment.
Ilhee Zhang also announced his intention to forward questions regarding the project for the construction of the Tashkent-Andijan toll road on a PPP basis, including the possible timing of announcing a tender for this project and the completion of the World Bank’s feasibility study.
Both sides confirmed their readiness for further cooperation in the implementation of infrastructure projects in Uzbekistan.
