A meeting was held at the Agency for Strategic Reforms with representatives of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) – Arno Prête, Isabelle Chatry, Miguel Bover, and Elina Smetanina.
The Director of the Agency, Bakhodir Rakhmatov, welcomed the experts on their visit to Uzbekistan and noted that, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, consistent reforms in public administration are continuing in the country.
The positive dynamics of cooperation with the OECD in this area were emphasized. In particular, measures recommended in the Public Governance Review: Uzbekistan are being systematically implemented. Currently, within the framework of the second phase of the review, additional studies and analytical consultations are underway.
OECD expert Arno Prête highly praised the scale and depth of the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, including efforts to implement a strategic planning system and improve the efficiency of public administration.
During the meeting, issues related to the further advancement of public administration reforms, decentralization, and regional development were discussed.
B.Rakhmatov proposed holding regular consultations within the framework of developing a strategy project up to the year 2030. He also noted the advisability of creating a joint project office involving the Agency for Strategic Reforms, the Ministry of Justice, the Public Administration Efficiency Agency, and the Institute of Legislation and Legal Policy.
The OECD representatives supported the proposal and expressed readiness to provide expert and methodological support during the strategy development phase, including preparing recommendations and sharing international best practices.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both parties confirmed their intention to continue mutually beneficial cooperation and agreed to strengthen regular consultations to further develop the partnership between the Agency for Strategic Reforms and the OECD.
